Good morn-tiiing Bizzies!
Happy Monday Madness! Okay, so the BET Awards last night…..I know everyone has been buzzing about the hi-lights, low-lights and all of the goings ons in between. Well, guess what? So-am-I! Lol. My overall opinion of this year’s show was that it was just okay. For some reason, I thought there was going to be less ratchet activity (Young Money). But I guess a little bit is better that a lot of it. So, the show was hosted by Chris Rock and MC Lyte was the emcee again this year (she looked fab), but there weren’t any wow moments like there had been in previous shows. I kind of expected much more. Anyhoo, here’s a quick recap of some of what I thought were the hi-lights of the show: Pharrell opened the show with his new hit single, Come and Get it Bae with a special appearance/mash-up with Ms. Missy Elliot. The crowd went nuts when she came out rapping a couple of bars from her song Lorenz Tate presented and award…YAAAAS!!! This brother to the night has not aged one iota!! He looked scrumptous! Chris Brown’s performance…loooved! I actually wished they would have cut Usher’s performance and gave Chris more time, to remind us of the Breezy effect! Lol. Side not: Did anyone notice the ring on his ring finger? Hmmmm. Jennifer Hudson’s performance started out great! I wasn’t feeling her second song too much but she looked amazing though! Trey Songz performance was sexy, as expected. I Loved Jhene Aiko and John Legend’s calabo on her song The Worse. She did really good job. Speaking of John Legend and his 100th performance at the show, he kicked off the tribute to Lionel Richie. Following John Legend was the fantabulous Ledisi. She looked amazing! I didn’t really like her performance, but I love her new look. Kudos to her glam squad! The tribute was close out by the incomparable Yolanda Adams. She sang the he** out of Lionel Richie’s Jesus is Love! Now, the throwback/flashback performance was a bit disappointing for me. Troop, Color Me Bad and Silk all reunited and performed their hits from the 90’s. There was so much wrong with these performances…like some of the groups were missing members, missing steps and missing dieting as a part of their pre-show preparation! Silk did okay, in terms of having all the members and the vocals being good but other than that they were not, could not be considered eye candy! Nick Canon presented the nominees for the Best Gospel Artist category sporting a fro and a t-shirt with comedienne Luenell’s face on it??? Shenanigans!! Oh and Stevie J. was spotted at the awards without his “wife” Joseline Hernandez, but T.I. and Tiny were spotted together…yaay, I was happy to see that! Paris Hilton was there….haven’t figured out why yet. And lastly, Robin Thicke!!!! I am so over him using his personal life and ordeal with his now estranged wife as yet another attempt to drive music sells. Sigh!!
Neext, the good part, my Best Dressed Picks:
Okay, so these ladies got the white memo. Loves all of these looks! White hot on a platter!
Metalics were a treat on the red carpet this year. I absolutely looove these dresses donned by Keke Palmer and Charli Baltimore. Fawn Chambers (wife of Fonzworth Bentley) went classic with her 20’s inspired beaded dress. Snaps ladies!!!!
Claudia Jordan and Tatiana Ali are both serving up summer bodies in these classy, sexy and sophisticated low-cut numbers. Loves..the color, style and fit of these gowns. Perfect summer colors and perfect fit to show off that summer body. My girl LaTarsha Rose (from Being Mary Jane) served us up a small scoop of trendy, fun, leather and color! She looks gorgeous in her crop top and full skirt with pockets! I love hidden pockets in my skirts and dresses!
Black is the new black! I like all three of these completely different styles rocked by up and coming R& B/Pop sensation Tanashe, Ledisi and Angela Simmons. Tanashe is giving me hip-hop, Ledisi is giving me R&B and Angela Simmons is giving me rock star in her sexy and edgy dress.
And for the fellas…I like Tony Rock’s classic look with the printed tuxedo jacket. John Legend played it safe and went for comfort and chic (knowing he would be changing and performing a million times). Good look fellas!
Aww and I just loves Travis Barker! He, his daughter and his mini-me represented rocker style on the red carpet.
And that’s if for now. Stayed tuned for the Afternoon T. with my worst dressed picks in the Manic Monday file.
