The 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards lit up Durban, South Africa last weekend at the ICC Centre. Who knew MTV did music awards in Africa?? The event appeared to be just as star-studded and fabulous as it is here in the states. The show was hosted by Marlon Wayans. Miguel, Trey Songs and French Montana performed. Drake, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Pharrell Williams, and Miley Cyrus were all nominated for Best International Act.
Other American celebrity guests included Damien and Craig Wayans from the Second Generation Wayans show aaaannnddd Khloe Kardashian yall! Smh. Her boo-thang French Montana performed, so she accompanied him as his date. I guess, Khloe! I really don’t want to believe this/that these two are that serious!! I just can’t, I tell you! I won’t!!
Anyhoo, check out my own personal red carpets picks from some of South Africa’s hottest artists:
African duo Nhlanhla Nciza & Theo Kgosinkwe of Mafikizolo killed it. I absolutely looove both of their looks! I am a big fan of the 3-piece suit. I think it gives a man a more stylish and distinguished look, as you can see. I’m especially diggin the color combination he chose, the orange suit with the blue shirt and indigo blue tie. Yes, he nailed it!!! And Ms. Nhlanhla is working that teal fitted gown as well. I just wished they would have color coordinated. If I had styled them, I would have made sure each one of them would have had a color from the other on. Together or not, they are a group and I think that would have been cute. Especially, for moments like this when they are photographed together.
Nigerian singer, dancer, songwriter Flavour looks hot in this black and white ensemble. It’s casual but, I loves the detail on his shirt and the white sole on his shoes! This is a really sexy, laid back look. He looks naturally and effortlessly fly!
Sierra Leon’s international soul singer, Azania. donned this foo-foo and elegant number. I love the color, the fit, and the details. I’m glad she opted to wear her hair up with this gown. Any other hair style would have been too busy. This entire look on her is great on her. Weeerk!
Yaaaas, Ghanaian Neo soul singe- songwriter, Efya, looking amazing in this classic, mermaid style, orange gown. I love the attached neck piece. It give the gown a traditional and authentic African touch. This dress is huuuggin her curves. She’s killin it!!
I am loving this floral print kimono styled number on South African actress Ms. Kajal Bagwandeen. Her look is elegant, sophisticated, fun and ready to party!
DJ Zinhle in a hot navy blue high-waisted pant suit. First of all, suits are hard to pull off as sexy. The waiter style cut jacket with the shoulder pads with the gold bustier underneath, keeps this look sexy. No question about it! I could also see a nice high-waisted pencil skirt or even a mini with the jacket and bustier as well.
Singer, Yuri Da Cunha in this hot orange blazer. Loves! He get’s an A for the color alone because yall know how much I love me some pop of color….especially, orange. He got the memo! lol
Now, on another note, I feel compelled to mention my no-so best dressed, but most creative dressed….
Somizi, South African singer, choreographer and T.V. personality is known for his flamboyant style and get ups, but this one is not working for me…at all. I can’t figure out what’s goin on?!! And guess what, I’m done trying! lol If he was American, he would be in my Monday Madness report.
